I just bought a 1965 M670 diesel. I think it is number 380 built. I am going to sell it after a new battery and clean up etc. It looks like it had the white band across the middle of the grill like a M602. Is this right? If so I need a grill screen and band before I sell it. Nice machine but I am used to seeing either M602 or M670 Supers. There is no white on the hood. Looks like a M602. Early model?

My father purchased a 1966 M670 Super Diesel tractor new in 1967, and I have many fond memories of this tractor. The M670 Super tractors had the then-new MM styling which debuted on the 1966 G1000 tractor. It consisted of Power Yellow hood side/top panels; wide, white hood side panels; and a Dyna Brown chassis. In late 1967 the M670 Supers went to an all-yellow scheme until they were discontinued in 1970. Also, stamped aluminum "MM" and "MINNEAPOLIS-MOLINE" emblems were located on the front grill.

The M670 (non-Super) tractors I have seen used the narrow white band around the hood, as you stated, and looked very similar to the earlier M602 model. There was a cast "MM" medallion at the center of the grill within this white band, too.

M602, M670, and M670 Super tractors all used realted versions of the 336 cubic inch inline 4-cylinder MM engine. Power output was increased over the years, essentially, through minor upgrades.

Thanks for the information. I am more familiar with the Super models and have not seen too many ofthe regular ones. We have an M5 gas that we really like, but I belive the Supers were much nicer to operate. The 336 seems to be a great motor. I have a 425 and 283 diesel already. Dad used to run a G1000 (brown engine) diesel on the farm as a kid. He said is was similar to that. Thanks for the info once again. I hope to have a Super one day if I run across it.

As far as I know they started the Supers in '66 and the '65s had an all yellow hood with the white band across the grill screen just like you described.
