I have restored this old tractor. The engine is running great on LPG.

My problem is that I am loosing a lot of gear oil through a hole on the bottom of the clutch housing. The oil comes from the transmission. The seal may be bad.

Who knows the basic steps to replace the seal?

Norbert

The very first thing to check is the fluid level in the trans. I got a Big Mo 400 and when running, had leaks from every place possible on the bellhousing. Checked the level, drained out 5 gallons til I got er down to the full level, the guy had taken out the top plug and filled er up to the top. The same guy put F10 plugs in place of the D15, so it missed as well. ALL to my advantage, no one else would buy it so the price was WAY down there, with the Duall loader.

John,

you could be right. The tractor was only leaking a little bit when I got. After I changed the gear oil, it started to leak heavily. I drained about 10 quarts of old oil and put in 18 quarts of new oil per owners manual. Maybe the manual is wrong.

The amount you put in is the same as mine, seems as though yours might have a leaking front main shaft seal. Probably didn't leak before, because of the low level. I added a PTO to mine and now it leaks, seems like the front seal and the PTO front cover are both leaking. Didn't split it to install the PTO, looks like I have to now. Some days are good days and some are bad days!
