The serial number tag on the right side of the gear case is listed as 27900802 and has a model designation of 220A-4. What year was the tractor made? Also, Stanley Muffer Co. lists an MM4 muffler which has a 2-3/4 inlet yet the tractor manifold takes a 2 od pipe. Is there a special pipe that is used to go between the muffler and manifold

If I remember correctly, the JetStar3 & U302's all used the 2" muffler. The elbow for them has a half circle with 2 bolt holes cast onto the top of it. A half circle steel band bolts to it & clamps the bottom tube of the muffler tight.

The earlier 206's (335, 445, JetStar, JetStar2 & 4 Star) used the larger full round elbow and takes an offset pipe about 10" long (that goes over the elbow) so the muffler will clear the hood when opened.

Thanks for the response John. The elbow (which is a separate casting that bolts to the manifold) has the half circle with the two bolt holes. Where can I find the correct muffler for this thing? I have a picture but I don't know how to post it.

To add to John's reply, That muffler is in the Stanley Muffler catalog-or at least it was. You are fortunate to still have the flange on your manifold, as not too many do have it here in NC where fields are little and low hanging limbs are abundant.
I think the muffler you need will have the 2" inlet, and be offset, meaning the inlet/outlet pipe doesn't go through the center of the round muffler, but rather is offset to one side-so you could raise the hood on Jetstars, and 4stars. I think I have one of those mufflers for my Big Mo 400, still in the box. If you can't look it up by description, I'll try to get the part number for you.

Thanks Kelvin. At this web site, Link it too, says a muffler with a 2-3/4" inlet is used on the U series tractors. Pictures are shown here Link one of them looks like what you are talking about. I am at a lose as to why Stanley and this place call out a 2-3/4" inlet when the tractor takes a 2" pipe.

220A-4 is the engine model. Look back on the transmission, under the foot board, right hand side. There should be another plate there with the tractor serial number on it.

The tag is there and says 27600802 which would be 1964. Thanks Kelvin
