I have been looking for an UTU. Any info on horsepower? Where did it rank among MM's other tractors of the period? Dad had one they got during the war. He said it had oversized rice tires on it which made it fly down the road. He thought it was quite a horse. What do they sell for, in running condition, but not completely restored? I am south of Des Moines, Ia.

They were a horse in their day. Best power you could get in a row crop tractor. The only bigger one was a model G. The engines could interchange. About 45-50 h.p. depending on what heads etc. If you can find a straight good runner for $1000-$1500, that is a decent price. In the war you took what you could get. I own a 1947 UTU. Grandpa bought one new about the same time. It was gasoline, but had LP heads because that was all he could get at the time. Hope this helps Dan.

Thanks Mopower. That was exactly the deal. They were always red fans, but during the War you were put on a waiting list and you had to take what you could get. My grandfather got a UTU. Him and dad were always impressed with it.
