Would any M-M experts out there have any information on a 403 or 605 diesel engine? I have an ad showing a 605 diesel power unit and I know M-M made some 403 diesels at the factory with counter balancers in the crankcase. None are confirmed to be released to the public, but you never know. In fact a straight eight was prototyped too. Anyone? Info? Stories?

I have seen a 605 diesel myself . they are kind of old. they say the 585 diesel was prototype from one. if a 065 diesel was made it probably would not be that hard to make a 403 diesel fron a old 605 diesel. just my 2 cents worth. never heard of a straight eight but why not. just another block. I have heard of half of a 336 propane made for the oil industry.

Hi Kevin. Where would I find a 605 diesel? I guess they had mechanical issues but I'd love one for my GBD. It would look more correct than a 585.

I couldn't resist adding to this thread:

There was a guy-Dave Neubert near Monroe NC who rebuilt a GVI as an 800cu in.

I was thinking it was diesel at one time-but maybe that was before the rebuild. The last time I saw the tractor at a pull it was on gasoline.

Dave's tractor was originally a diesel. He ran it that way for a while. Not sure how big that engine was but it ran very nice and had a lot of bottom end grunt. The 800 was just a starting point for the cubes once he went to the gas engine.

Quite possible. 585 with 800 crank gets you 650 cubes. I do not know how things hold up when you start stroking a diesel and going wild. If you got the cash, lots of combinations are neat ideas. I'm a cheap son of a gun, but maybe one of these days.

The one I seen was at the kansas state fair as a display for some rebuilder company. It was a lanova type diesel. I have never came across another one since but I will look around for one now if you would like. There were MM's at Husker Harvest Days in Grand Island, Ne also I can look there also.

That's good Kevin. If you ever happen to see one let me know. They may have had a weak gas crank or head gasket problems according to some, but more or less a misfit that never really caught on I guess. The 425, 451, 504, and 585 were the standard diesels and if anything more than that was needed, propane engines were probably used.

I am running a 674 cu, Diesel in my GBD. It's one sweet running tractor. I run 20.8/34, Firestone 23 degree tires. Can run 4th up to 9000, and only running about 1900rpm

Hi Dieselbear. I've chatted with you before on diesels. Sounds like you got a strong one there. My latest theory was using a 585 with 800 crank/rods. It all fits. Might not look quite stock. Yours still holding together? Any problems? Maybe just a dream of mine, but sounds good....sounds expensive. Just saw the add for a 605 diesel and thought hey that would look good if there are any out there.
