I am building an rtu with a 206 motor, bored out 45000 with aluminium piston,lp head and intake, bigger intake and exaust valves, all new bearings and seals, new gov. rebuild from motec, carb. rebuild, electronic ignition. Put it on a dyno and got 42 hp. at 1800 rpm's, when I talk to different people they tell me I should have 50-60 hp., if that is the case what am I doing wrong? is it the bigger valves or the comp. to high, everyone has good advice but cant really back what they say with words of wisdom just you should have done this or should have done that I will do what ever it takes but I am tired of experementing on everyones advice that has not really done it themselves you guys know it costs alot of money and I am running out of money on this project, they say 70hp is possible without stroking but noone can tell me how just that it can be done. Thanks for reading I am serious and have 4500-5000.00 into this little r and would really like to achieve max hp thanks and hope to hear from someone soon thanks Potter

thanks for the advice, the motor is out of a za series tractor, I am not sure how to cheat a dyno, but I did keep rpm's close to stock, I talked to a gentleman tonight he said 70 plus hp but that was with unlimited rpm and no govenor, so I think I am on the right track thanks alot guys, I just want to beat them 77's and those farmmall h's. have fun pullin I will POTTER

Ok, I got confused and automatically assumed Jet Star 206. In a Z type motor, the advice you are getting is right about restrictive air flow. Clean that up. A ZTU exhaust manifold (straight up) and LP gas intake will help if you work on them. A cam with the right profile will help too. How much compression are you getting? LP heads help. The one I am doing is nearly identical to a friend's. He had 65 h.p. but not sure what RPM. I know it would turn about 2200. Sorry about the mix up. I use two Jet Stars, so I think of them when I hear "206". If you like, I can still connect you with some guy with good experience.

You can't make 50 or more hp without some help in the valve pockets, that is the most restictive part of the intake tract, you have to get rid of the valve guide back as far as you can. 1.6 small block chevy valves and open up behind the valves to match the increased size. Smooth and taper the port up to the top where the manifold mounts. Block off between the intake and exhaust manifolds(weld in a plate if possible). Port match all intake/carburator gaskets, Pay close attention to the where the intake/carb tube mounts to the intake. I've had stock bore and stroke R's make low 40's without cheating the dyno. A 206 should make low 50's if modified this way. Good luck making anymore then that without stroking and serious porting to everything between the carb and valves. There's just not enough intake runner size to support more hp. Plain and simple.

I am attempting the same thing. Not sure why your h.p. is low. Timing, cam, air flow.....not sure. Look at U302 LP gas manifolds. That could help some. I know stock U302s have been retuned to 75 h.p. with carb, timing, and RPM work. A U302 uses a 220 gas engine...basically a big bore 206. If you can be lucky enough to find U302 diesel blocks, they are 3.875 from the factory. (D236 motor). I have not found any yet. I think the fella that said try it on the track is right. See if you got torque. E-mail me at [email protected] and I can put you in touch with a couple people that can offer experience and advice and maybe troubleshoot your motor. They are excellent and I have seen thier M-M pull. I am more of an interchangeable parts junkie.

A 206 Z engine has a pretty restrictive intake path,(narrow runners and lots of corners). This makes it hard to get a lot of air to it at high rpms but it also makes a huge low to mid range torque curve with all the intake turbulance. Not all dynos are the same. Our stock ZA with will hit 42 when you lug it down.

I would have to say you have done about as good as you are going to. The only way I know how to make that kinda power is to cheat the dyno.

My opinion is the numbers on a dyno don't mean a thing. Take that monster to a track and hook it! That will tell ya if you have enough.

Joe

P.S. I am running 2 206's that have been bored 0.125 w/ aluminum pistons high comp head etc and that is right about the same power I see at 540 rpm.
