From talking to pullers, I have learned that if too much (70+) horsepower is built in to an R, the tranny will fail...especially in a class like 4500. While there may be ways to beef it up, how would a ZT tranny hold? I could have from 90-110 h.p. A 110 h.p. 2750# tractor would be unheard of, but I may go the ZT/JT route and pull 3500# if I can. May be a while to iron out the details.

206, maybe not. HD220, maybe. Plus a little (a lot) of work. I've got some pulling buddies that build some strong stuff in little engines. Etc. No dark secrets, just ususal stuff you might see in a Allis WC or Farmall H only a HD220 provides equal or better potential. I got a ZA 206 together with nothing too special done. Expecting 50-60 h.p. If I get it going and dyno it, I'll post another message. No proof, just educated (maybe haha) guesses.

I've heard of R's shearing the bolts on the ring gear. You may want to replace them with grade 8 or drill and tap bigger.

First, I'm no puller.

But If I was going to try this, (Depends on the rules) I'd use a ZA transmission with a ZT transmission cover, gas tank, hood, radiator, cowl, etc. The gearing is a little different in the ZA tranny.

I would expect the weakest link in the system is either the differential pinion, or its carrier. Also, I notice that GB's use some sort of "snubber" behind the ring gear opposite the pinion to keep from breaking it.

It'd also depend on how you were going to beat the thing around, too. shock loads are much more likely to make scrap.
