Stubborn ZTU

My ZTU runs real good until it warms up, then it misses and eventually dies after running about 30 minutes.

I have had the mag to two different repair shops, both said the mag is good.
I still suspect the coil is the problem but both repair shops assured me otherwise.

What else could cause this problem?
Could it be valves out of adjustment?

The carb was overhauled and I believe it to be properly adjusted.

I need this tractor to perform as well as it can as I need it to get me through the hay season.

Also, I hope you guys have a better hay crop than I have. No rain this year for me with tonnage about half what is normal!

Any Moline help would be appreciated!

i believe all the post are correct but ill add some check your tappets they could be too tight and whan hot not allow the valves to close. two you should have the option of a distributor instead of mag sometimes it helps also check the condencer in the mag as well as the fiels for scoring i had a similar incident once.

I think you're on the right track. Did either of your mag shops heat the magneto when they tested it? If it takes 1/2 hour run time, then they would really have to spend a while with it.

Looks like a hair dryer on max or some such would work.

You might check for a spark immediately after it quits. If its dead, that's your problem.

Have you tryed icing the mag. Sounds silly but will help determine if it is the coil. I've seen it done on 21-32's would be harder on a Z though. Maybe try taping an ziplock bag of ice to the mag. If the coil is opening up once warm, this should let the tractor run longer. If you notice a longer run time then I would guess it is the coil. Much easier to do if the mag is out in the open. Don't overlook the simplist of things. It sounds to me that the machine is running out of fuel. I would get the drain at the bottom of the carb loose. Run the machine until the engine dies then immediately remove the drain plug and see what comes out of the carb. You may find an inadequate flow of fuel through there.

Might be trash floating around in the fuel tank that eventually plugs over the line to the carb. Could also be trash in the float bowl that gets sucked up into the main air bleed(highspeed needle) under high load-high fuel demands. When the machine quits.. the trash floats away or out of the main air bleed (needle).

Just my idea. I have seen this before on one of my own tractors.

Work 29 minutes at a time; Just kidding. I agree with the bottom 2 earlier strings. Check the fuel tank at night with a flashlight peering into the fuel neck for rust, dirt or other garbage.
This may be inhibiting good fuel flow.
Check the sediment bowl for rust build up.
Disconnect the fuel supply line to the carb and let it flow into a bucket for several minutes.
Stream should be full the whole time.
Check your carb float bowl to be sure it is properly adusted for float level and that the soldered float bowl seams have to pinholes and the float section(s) are not partially fuel logged. With all these other strings your ZTU
will be growling all over creation, maybe even more than 29 minutes. Good luck.
