Hi, How do you guys tackle a rusted-tight hub on a rear axle(in my case a U302)? I have removed the bolts and the small part with no trouble but the keyed part of the hub is tight on the axle. I have been soaking it and tapping on it, but I haven't done anything major yet. Any advice? I would search the archives , but that is down this morning. Thanks in advance, Brian(MN)

My Jet Star 3 which had similar wheels to U302 didn't have a seperate clamp on part on it's hubs. It had solid peice hub, with big slot full length ot both bolts. I had oils and chisels and such poked into slots. The chisels just Popped rihght out if you tapped them one too many tapsl I got the hub to spread off axle some for more oil gap but didnt make diff. I have a local AGco dealer once moline, and borrowered there big hub puller, using big pipe bar to turn the handles and it finnally came off. NOT fast or easy either. Had to use puller almost to the end of axle. I sanded and cleaned those things well, and deburred and ground the ends of keys I beat on to move and reinsert. If you have a type with top small part comes off, would think it would be easy! I had those on a Case once. Take off top small plate and turnwheels over so openings at bottom and with oil and big push or whap should come loose!

On a dead U, I just loosened the bolts in the clamp (I'm assuming that's what you're describing by the "small piece") and drug the tractor around some.
