Jet Star color and history

I follow the color schemes very closely to know what decals and colors are correct for M-Ms. I have a Jet Star and a Jet Star 2. Can anyone tell me how the decision came to use Brown in the color scheme? Anyone from M-M have marketing reasons? Why did they go with an all brown tractor and never again (except for brown mule uni-tractors)? I love the looks of the Jet Star, just don't know the history.

My Uncle has a JS2 that is no. 15 according to the serial number tag. My grandfather purchased the tractor in 1969 and it had very little use up until that point so I'm confident it was never repainted. It had the energy yellow sheet metal with the remainder being brown.

It was explained to me that the Jet Stars were painted all brown as a cost savings. Not certain if that is true. It will be interesting to see what others know on this topic. It comes up somewhat frequently.

I would like to know if the all brown paint scheme was also used on some of the JS IIs. In our collection we have a couple JS IIs that are unrestored and are all brown

Being the proud owner (when it starts) of a 1962 brown Jetstar with all original paint and bought from the son of the original owner, whom I trust, I can tell you that this particular tractor has MM yellow paint showing beneath the brown on the steering column (the casting), the 3-point and the fender brackets. all these parts apparrently were painted before assembly. One front spindle is also yellow, but it may have been replaced.
The hood, however, apparrently never received any primer, because the brown is flaking off and there's nothing but bare metal underneath.

I don't really know the understanding about the color scheme. I'm thinking there are some jetstars with yellow hoods and fenders that were that way originally and then some were all brown except the wheels.

I'm pretty sure all the jetstar2's had yellow hoods and fenders.

I'm thinking that since the 4 star was basically the same tractor with the exception of the rear wheels-(mormally 28" for the jetstar, 38" for the 4 star) maybe they thought people would think they were getting more tractor if the 4 star had a more "frilly" paint job.

I always thought the 4 star was identical, but after careful inspection, the 4-star had a longer tranny than a jet star. If you ever get a chance take a look and you will notice extra length there. I just happened to see this at the Lowry show in Indiana this Spring.

The Jet Star 2 was built only in 1963. It was basically a Jet Star with all the options. I believe the seat was not "springy" like the old Jet Star/M5 type. To this day I have not seen one Jet Star 2 restored 100% correctly. I have an original picture of one. Because of it's year, it is energy yellow and the brown is non metallic I think. Grandpa bought one new in 1963. Your brown ones may very well be correct. Moline did a few different things with paint. There is a yellow/brown 335 Special tractor too. All interesting, but who knows why they did it. Thanks for the info. I'd love to buy another Jet II if I could find one!

To Jet Star 2 and SWMolines

I have recently acquired two 1963 Jet Star 2 gas tractors with wide front ends. However, I am missing 2/3's of the hood sheet metal. I only got the left side and need the center and right sections of hood as you sit on the tractor. Any help in finding these pieces would be helpful. BTW, these are both energy yellow, what's left anyway of the paint.

The Yellow/Brown 335s were called 335 Specials. There were two 50 unit production runs of 335s after full scale production was stopped. I believe the years were 60 and 61. We have one and I have seen or heard of 2 or 3 others. They were identical to the earlier 335s except for the paint scheme.
