electrical problems

OK guys, My U is not charging and I took the wires off the voltage regulater to check/change it and didn't mark the wires. I rewired all the wires and I have a wire coming to the regulater from the ammeter on the dash. does it go to the front terminal or the middle one???? Is there any where to find a wiring diaghram of a U??? thanks for a grat forum.

Rich, did you say you changed the regulator? (as in a new one?) If you do have it wired right and still not charging, you may need to take the cover off the reg. and see if the contacts are opening. Adjust by prying carfully with a screwdriver. That will open the contacts a little more. Have had do to that to several. Good luck

First, to make sure yours is a regulator, there should be 3 terminals/screws/contacts in a row, on the side of the regulator a fourth contact is usually under the regulator case.

If this is the case, the wire from the Ammeter goes to the B or BAT terminal on the regulator. The wire from the switch goes on the "L" terminal ('Load' terminal). The L is USUALLY on one end of the row and the B is USUALLY in the center of the row. It would be best to clean things and look for the letters as they are usually stamped on the contacts.

Sometimes there are covers that go over the fork on the wires and they hide the stamped letters.
