I have an old g1355 diesel that has a brake trouble. I use it to bale with so I haven't fooled with it this winter much, but it needs to be fixed. Seems like when its cool (tractor not fully warmed up) the brake does ok, then later if its good and warm and you go up the road in road gear you can feel it pulling. In lower gears its hard to tell. Sometimes you can smell that brake...I believe its the right one.
They are hudraulic. Any ideas on what might be wrong? I'd like to get it fixed before I'm stuck driving in circles.

The first thing I can suggest to you is to see if there has been oil leaking from the vent holes in the bottom of the brake housings. If so,the three brake lining discs are oil soaked they can act grabby and smell hot after a few hours use. If there is no oil leaking. Then I know of only one other possiblity. One of the spools in the brake valve, inside the dash, has excessive clearence and is allowing oil to bypass to the hydraulic piston in that brake cover. To check this you will need access to a 300lb gauge and hose with a fitting to thread into the bleed screw hole located in the top of the brake covers on each side near where the pressure line attaches. Then run the tractor till problem occurs and see if pressure is being applied when the pedal is not being depressed The most it should shows is 250lbs when on and I would say 5-10lbs released. There are piston return springs to seperate brake discs and release pressure under that break cover on each side.
I would also suggest posting your message on the OLIVER board for further input for problems Because the engine and front frame assembly are the only MINN-MOLINE portions of the tractor the rest was Oliver. It was a hybrid of sorts.
Good Luck,
Tim

Check your emergency brake and make sure it is fully off, I have had trouble with this in the past and it will start smoking going down the road. If the brake is fully off you can take the cap off the center of the housing and back the bolt out and that will take all the emergency brake off that side. If it still drags after all that then there is something wrong with the actuator inside, you may have a stuck piston or something.

Good luck
