A4T1400 motor problems

I have a A4t1400 diesel with turbo that pops when running. Compression is about 220 psi on all 6 cylinders. Either motor is ready for a total rebuild or time for the scrap pile. It just seems odd that the compression is equal on all not real low on one or two. It is a 504ci. Any help would be appreciated.

Your compression sounds very low. It should be between 440 and 460 PSI.

Does the engine smooth out under heavy pull? if it doesn't it could be just injection system problems.

Lo Press; Take your pressure gauge setup to some diesel mechanic or repair center. Have them set it up on a similar diesel engine after they take there own pressure gauge readings.
This should confirm your gauge and connection method. They should be willing to do it for so much per hour.
If your rig pulls decent without the turbo kicked on sounds like your better than 50 percent on cylinder pressure. Good luck.

The motor has 10A29559 heads. What compression should it have? It does pull fairly good even with the turbo off. Also it starts good.

I question the gauge but we checked on air compressor and it was ok at 100lbs.We had the injectors done and made no difference. Would we being fooled by a bad pump? Would a pump off a 585 work to try?

the roosa master type pump or now stanadyne is a very adaptable type pump. Maintaining the same timing is mandatory. should bolt up the same. I once seen a 585 with an inline bosch pump. it ran good. By the way what s/n do you have. mine is #97

The compression should be around maybe 450psi for a perfect engine. The trouble is as the compression falls the starting problems start. I was just thinking that you might of had a problem with your guage when you did you compression check. I have never seen 6 even cylinders before. from working on tractors to aircraft engines. you always have some variances. just my thoughts
