Hello All,

I have a brown Jet I'm close to having restored. Kevin Moschenrose was nice enough to send me a wiring diagram a while back but I still can't get this baby wired right.

After wiring it according to the diagram, as soon as I turn the key on, it pegs the amp gauge at positive side. The tractor doesn't have lights.

Any idea what I could be missing?

Tim, if you have not solved the problem I have another possible solution. If you disconnected the wires at the generator or voltage regulator it will be necessary to polorize the electrical system (make curreent flow in the correct direction). If you are not sure how to do it, most older books on automotive systems will provide instructions. It is a very simple process. Also, new voltage regulators usually come with instructions. I think I have a book with instructions. Let me know if you need them.

if nothing has been altered in the electrical system in a brown jet,you should have positive ground. that could be the problem with the amp gage pegging on the plus side.otherwise the voltage reg. could be stuck,but the gage should go to neg. side. if the points are closed you should get a few amps draw but not to the plus. you have something backwards

I don't have a wiring schematic, either.

Does your starter start with the pull ring, or does it have a solenoid on the starter?

If you have a solenoid type starter, the only thing I can think of is do you have the connections to the starter solenoid and the coil reversed at the switch.

I have seen other switches that somehow became grounded to the case when turned on, on other tractors.

Thanks for the replies,

The first problem is we have the battery wires reversed. We have positive going to the starter which is wrong. We toasted a coil already but I have another to use.

I do not have a MM wiring schematic, but do you have the meter wired in series. Ammeters should be wired in series with the electrical circuit.
Make sure to observe the correct polarity.
