The power steering on my Jet Star 3 seems a little restricted. Whereas my U302 is extremely easy to steer, the Jet Star takes an effort to turn the wheel. Also, if the engine is off, the wheels will not turn. According to the brochure the wheels should turn with the engine not running. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks for the information. I do have the manual and have studied the system. I still like suggestions from MM guys. Nothing better than help from those who have been there/done that.

I have JS3 and Yes, they do steer w/out engine on, but turns quite hard. There must be some type of valve like a bypass or something in the box unit to allow that to happen. Think the IT manual has a big section on the steering repair and how it works. Mine was good, so didn't do any work on it. You have to remove from below dash I believe, specially if you leave the hoses on system. The gas tank will have to come out to. Once tank is out, plenty of room. Mine runs off front pump at engine not the PTO pump like early ones. You sure that's full of oil? Tank is on the pump there.

I'm not really up on jet3 power steering, but I would check the pressure from the pump. Older tractors used 650-750 psi, I don't know about jetstars, but should be close.
I have a hunch that the problem is in that valve behind the engine on the clutch housing, but I'm not sure.
I think it is supposed to supply pressure up to the steering motor and also to act as a damper, so there won't be any 'back steer' through the system to the wheel.

Lynnie Baucom at Baucom implement is pretty good on older hydraulics you might give him a call. I don't have his phone number handy E-mail me if someone else doesn't have it.
