I'm putting new pistons/rod bearings in my Za when turning the engine over to get to the next rod to put on the crank it seems to turn over every hard. You have to put a wreanch on the fan belt pully nut and pull. How hard should it be to turn it? My bearing clearance is .12,Cylinders were fitted to the piston per instructions.
Thanks Spubs

Z friction; You may be experiencing rebuilt normal conditions. Let 'er break in for a couple hundred hours. I bet there are a lot of MM tractor owners that would like to be back to the spec's you quoted. I don't think you'll be plowing with a wrench on the damper wheel. Good luck I think you have done a good rebuild and will soon realize it.

When I rebuilt my u302 it turned over easy until I put the oil pump on, it turned out you need 4 gaskets for the proper clearances. The oil pump looks to be the same on the za.

Was the ring end gap set correctly at about 0.011"?

Vern,Yes the rings were set at 11-13th. I guess that a small block Chevy I recently rebuilt turned over a lot easier.
Thanks for all the input

I have to ask this first. Do you have the rod bearing caps on the right rods and are the numbers matched up and facing you though the inspection cover on the side of the engine?

Kevin, yes all rod numbers are matched, all numbers facing drivers side same way they came off. I've worked all day long and got the engine running. 36 psi oil pressure at 800 RPM's, 125 psi compression at test. But I stall can't turn her over by hand.

Well then I would give it a little run in time first and not worry anything about it then.
