Hello
I am actually working on the same type of project.
For the Rear Hubs we are using an M&W hub for a 3 inch axle, i thnk its off a 4010 JD, and having a new keyway, cut into the hub, then we will grind out the keyways on the axle for the u bolts to set into so it wont turn real easy if we end up breaking a hub or something.
Not real sure on this set up but i think it will work great and be a lot lighter then those original hubs, plus we will be able to make it original again if we want to.
Just an Idea
Shawn

I am making cut down hubs, from UB center axle hubs, they are cheap and I think stronger when we get done. Using two keys that are cut on tapper to fit spline and hub. have cut weight to about 60# from over 110#

Remove platform and fenders. You will need to manufacture something for the brake levers/pedals. Remove cast wheel centers and adapt pressed steel wheels with either the existing hubs or weld on plates. Replace the front yoke with tubing or rods. These changes put my G gas under #5500, your GB with LP tank should be easily under #6000.

If you do what curtis is telling u you'll be almost at 5000 if not a little under. I know of a GBLP thats pulling in the 4000 class. Don't know how he does it. but he does. If u go with pressed steel on the back get a new hub made at a machine shop and not an adapter creates too much of a week spot.

I would agree that there probably is no adapter that works well enough to use on a splined axle, and I personally have not used welded adapters although many have. However, you can use pressed steel without having a new hub made. I have and have seen others reverse the hub and you will find the 8 bolt pattern is close to the wheel weight holes on the wheels. Add some holes and you can bolt to all 8.

I pull with a G and I tried to get its weight down and it didn't pull well at all. I went the other way and weighted up with good results. Maybe you can get the weight down to a class where you can compete in road gear. If you are serious about removing weight from the rear wheels its possible to have a flat disc made and machined to fit the large hub and welded to a rim of your choice in size. Good Luck
