I narrowed down my front end, got to the point of sliding the tie-rod into the opposing shaft. Guess what it won't budge, and I can't get the outter tie-rod end off the spindle. Someone had taken a sledg-a-matic to it. Any ideas...Heat? New one?

Rick,
I suggest heat. I tried a 10 ton portapower and it didn't even budge the ones on my 1950 RTE. I was able to remove the tie rod assy and used a torch to heat it up then porceeded to beat on the outer casing enough to loosen the rust between the shafts. I clamped one end in a vise and used a pipe wrench on the other end to get the two halves to twist. I could then work them loose. I anti-seized the two halves before reassembly. It's been posted that Schwartz wide front ends used the same tie rod assy but you might want to check with a local dealer before destroying your parts.
