I modified a ZA motor to pull with and found a machine shop with a tool. They still left 1/16" at the top. I had 3-3/4"+.060 and LP heads to get good compression and i had to put a chamfer on the piston top edge and use a 1/8" thick block gasket so there would be no interference. Lost some compression from that. Good luck. My motor is ready to start up sometime. 227 cu in

you could always try the 3 3/4+60 pistons from Everrett Bros.I have them in my ZA. The com. height is correct. This time make sure whoever does the bore job knows what they are doing Glenn

byron, sounds to me that who ever bored your cylinder didn't have the tool to bore the top leaving a ridge. A special tool is needed to complete a bore job on a ZA motor.
Check to see if you have this ridge, if thats ok check your compression height.I.m about to do this bore to my Za 206

I had my RE101A blocks bored to 3 3/4" at a MM dealer, they let the NEW GUY do it and he left 1/4" at the top unbored. Found it when I was rolling it over to install the blocks onto the c/case. He told me that the rings didn't go that high!! Just remember, half of the DOCTORS graduated in the bottom half of their class!!!

I find it amazing that there are more incidents exactly like this. When I had my blocks bored, they left one cylinder with about 1/4" lip at the bottom. Quite a problem when they were bored .180" over!

Don't give up so easy on them. The blocks can be sleeved I have seen this done and work great. I would have thought that the sleeves would drop out the bottom but they don't. Only thing is not everybody would tackle this project. What kind of pistons did you put in it? Also just what is it that you are tring to do here with this motor? If you want to email me that's o.k. too.

byron,

Only consolation is that scrap metal prices have exploded in the last few months.
