I am considering buying an old MM sickle mower to restore and mount on back of my ZTU. (I would consider a belly mount mower if they are best)

Which model of MM mower is the best, as I will use the mower now and then. Please be as specific as possible.

I have absolutely no experience with MM mowers, in fact, I have never even seen one, so your recommendations is all I have to go by.

Thanks for your help.

I have a semi-mounted Moline mower. It's pictured in the Implement Photos Gallery. Hope the picture helps.
It is for sale.

I was wondering if you still had the mower that was pictured in the photo and also what model it was if you know. I think I have one just like it that I use for cutting hay and am needing parts, a parts mower or a back up

Where are you at and where is the picture? Can't find it in photo gallery.

Thanks

Go to Implement Photos in the Galleries column to the left. Enter "Loren" in the search box -this will show all of the Implement photos I've posted. I'm located in central MN.-9 miles south of Mora,Mn or 60 miles North of Mpls.MN. e-mail [email protected]

I'm only aquainted with the model MO sickle mower. It is a semi-mounted mower with one tail wheel which MM aquired when they bought BF Avery. It has been some trouble, but fairly reliable for a gizmo that shakes like crazy. We've used it yearly for almost 50 years. I guess its exactly 50 years, because it came with the '54 ZB.

MM's own sickle mower that would be same vintage as your ZTU was the UM 4 and UM 5. I am unaquainted with them.

Then there is the model S or SO. I've never seen a picture of one of these mounted on a ZTU.

the SO was a belly mount have seen them on R's but not on Z's, not common The UM-5 had a flaw the brace went into a casting and the casting would break if you hit something with the bar probably OK if you don't hit anything!
