Which starter do I have

I have a '51 UTS and the starter needs some parts, but I cant read whats left of the tag. I could take it in, but, I can do the work myself. Can anyone tell me what I have? It's a Delco, I can make out that much.

Dan,

If your tractor is after serial #01205554 it should have a Delco-Remy model #1107977 starter. I think it should have that number if earlier also, but it may be a #1107905. This all assumes you have the original starter. Hope this helps.

Closer than I was before. I have S/N# 01205059. There seems to be a 2 year period or so where MM couldnt decide on which way to go on these. It's 6 volt and I can make out a 11 on the tag. Do you know how those 2 numbers match to Delcos MT series of starters? I think I've narrowed it down to these numbers. 22MT, 25MT, and 27MT.

Dan,

I don't have a clue as to what an MT series starter is, I've never heard that term. I did look in an old NAPA Echlin catalog and while it doesn't show the break in the starters as being in mid-51 like the parts book, it does show the 1950 tractors still having the 7905 starter and the 1951's having the 7977. I don't know what you are looking to do with your starter, but it shows the brushes, brush spring, bushings and switch as being the same. Hope this helps.

Jim, I took some 0000 steel wool and went over the plate and I was able to read 7977. I also emailed an Ebay store and he got back to me today and told me everything was still readily available except for 12v fields. I've read and he told me also that the 6v fields are fine as long as they arent cranked too long. I'm happy. The MT he tells me is Delcos way of designating it a starting motor and didnt get into the model breakdown. It needs rebuilt and I can do it, I just needeed to know which one it was and you helped me with that.
