I have a m602 can anyone tell me if turning the engine over with the water pump and water pump drive gear removed will effect the timing. Ive asked numerous people and some say it may and some say it wont. noone has a manual to prove it. the timing is at13 degrees btdc. I believe the setting is supposed to be 9 butit ran before i did the water pump as it wont run now and its definetely getting fuel. fuel filters are new. please help?

The water pump drive shaft you removed also drives the injection pump. You are completely out of time.

James there are many ways to do this. Probably the reverse of what you did would be best. First of all depending what has been done to the engine, and we need to check this. The flywheel will fit in 6 different positions, we need to check to see if it is correct. When #4 intake valve rocker arm just starts to move the DC1-4 mark should be visible in the timing hole. If it is and we will assume that it is we can continue.Now remove the cover from the side of injection pump and turn engine in the direction of regular rotation, always. Keep turning until marks line up in pump window, now remove waterpump an drive shaft. Now turn engine until #4 intake rocker moves and timing mark is in window then back engine up past 15 degrees and bring up to 9-13 mark. Now put water pump drive shaft back in making sure pump marks stay lined up. This is a little confusing but I believe easier than removing injection pump and going through same procedure. Ken

Take the front valve cover off. Turn the motor over until you see the # 1 intake valve open then close bring the timing mark up to TDC you should now be on TDC for #1 cyl. Remember the intake valve is the 2nd one from the front. Take off dist cap after making a mark on housing at the #1 plug see how far the rotor is from the mark, take the distributor out and turn until it can be re-installed to where the rotor will line up with your mark when its back in. Then fire it back up and time it with the light as normal. Might be more than u need to do but if done this way and it still doesn't run you can take timing off of the list.
