I've got what looks like a ZTU, cast front and rear wheels, an RE engine, and a starter compartment for 2nd fuel. But the tag on the tractor says JT. Whats up?

See pictures I've posted in the tractor gallery of a 1935 & 1937 Minneapolis Moline-JT. Picts will show what a JT front should look like. If yours has a front of a Z, you could have a transition tractor or an early Z which has had the rear half replaced with that of a JT. Thus giving you a serial # of a JT. I would think that Moline would have put on a Z tag on the tractor, if they used a Z front end. What the hec, It's prairie gold -they're all beautiful! I have five Molines at last count: two R's, two RTI's and a JT.

Does you tractor have an area in front of the radiator for the aircleaner? The JT will have about a foot of space for the aircleaner in front assuming your aircleaner has been removed. I have a JT with the original engine. My uncle has one with the engine converted to the Z engine with a starter.

The very earilest Z's used a lot of JT parts. Some even had a cast 'spool' shaped piece to lengthen the JT transmission to Z specs. What you have is probably a transition tractor.

My JTU, '37, has a 4 bolt clutch adjusting cover, my '38 ZTU has the ordinary spring holder on the plate- they look different. The Z & J share axles and stuff, front ends are completely different.
