I just purchased a Jetstar 2 and I am having overheating/boilover problems. I think the lower hose is kinking when it warms up, so I am replacing the hoses this week. Is there a there a thermostat anywhere? I was looking, in the dark, and couldn't find where it could be. Also, I think someone put a taller radiator in it as the hood sits on the cap and there is about a 1 to 1 1/2 inch gap where the sheet metal should all come together. Can anyone please tell me the dimensions of the correct radiator or one that will work?
Thanks in advance
Sean

If you have a thermostat in the top radiator hose, it needs a hole to bypass a little warm water so that as engine heats up, the heat will get up to the thermostat. If its a Ford type in-hose thermostat, it doesn't have that hole and from personal experience that will cause it to overheat on startup. If/when the thermostat finally opens, it'll cool back down.

2. If the lower hose is kinking, You should see it suck shut when you open the throttle. It should have a spring inside. I found out this summer that new radiator hoses aren't supplied with the spring that kept this from happening inside them anymore.

Some models of MM's have the stat in the upper rad hose. It slips in and you use a third hose clamp to squeeze hose around it and hold in place. Usually can feel a bump or hard spot in hose from it. I find most have been removed and not running any in system. Have you done the drain and flush route? Air to blow out fins carefully on rad?? Sometimes old rust will settle in bottom of rad and hose and plug up, best to take lower hose off, sometimes can put water hose in bottom and blow out cap side, backwards to unplug!
