CAN anyone tell me what causes a mm 6cly diesel to sputter at high rpm with no load yet under load does not and pulls very strong

Maybe one of your injectors is not firing when not under a load. My G1000 will do that when it hasn't run for 30 minutes or so and not properly warmed up. You can sometimes tell which ones aren't working properly by letting the tractor idle and feeling the fuel line right behind each injector. A properly working injector should vibrate, and one that isn't working properly will not.

try some new fuel filters it took care of that poblem on mine

I have a 97 Massey with a 504 it does the same thing.Had pump gone through.Timeing & too much rpm was my problem.

Plastic govenor ring in Roosa master fuel pump going bad or slightly out of time. Talk with fuel pump rebuilders.

we have an 855 cummins in a 4586 International 4 wheel drive that flutters when not under a load....someone told us it was a governor in the injector pump....seems to run perfect under a load though
