have looked at moline tractors for years and may be getting serious about owning one. where can I find a book that tells what all the letters mean. probably a dumb question for you moline owners but very confusing to the rest of us. thanks steve roberts

I asked the same question and a guy sent me a very detailed description. You may be able to find the post in the forum archives. The first letter which is R, Z, U, or G is the model or size of the tractor, such as Farmalls C,H, and M. Those are written from smallest to largest. The second letter which is T, A, or B is the series. Those are written from oldest to newest. It's just like Fords cars. First was the Model T, then Model A, then Model B. The last letter is the front axle configuration. It is either U for universal or dual narrow front wheels, N for narrow or single front wheel, E for wide adjustable front axle, S for standard front axle. I thought there was another one but I don't remember what it was. I can't really say much more because that is all I can remember. If you have a 1950 ZAU (like mine) it would be a ZA, which would be the second style hood and grill, with a dual narrow front end. Hope I helped and if I find the list I will post it. If you have any more questions I will be glad to help and I'm sure some of these guys will too as they know alot more than I do.

Chris - A couple more entries for the third letter in the MM model designations: "I" for industrial, and "C" for cane (high clearance). Neither are too common but I have seen both a UTI and a UTC at shows around here. The UTC in particular is a very eye-catching machine!

Don't know if the other model series were ever offered in industrial or cane configurations.

R @ Z series were offered in Industrial "I" models but neither were offered in a cane "C" version. There were also a few G series industrials made.

A very good book to get is Illustrated buyer's guide Minneapolis moline tractors by Brian Rukes.
It is by far the best book yet on MM tractors. But that is my thoughts on it! You can get it at places like Amazon.com and others.
