M5 no spark

Cannot get any spark when trying to start. It is a negative ground. There is voltage to to the positive terminal on the coil when ignition turned on and a pulsating voltage to the negative terminal on the coil when cranking but still no spark coming out of the tower on the coil.
The coil heats up. A mechanic told me that the coil was faulty so I bought a new one but acts the same. I have reconnected the points and condenser in the distributor and the coil wire in case there was a problem there.

Has to be something simple -- started easily and ran well last week.
Starting to snow --- really hope someone can help me. Thanks

Thanks, Kelvin and Old, I found the problem -- the hot wire from the switch to coil was shorting out somewhere so I wired directly to the battery and the problem was solved.

Is the hot wire from the switch going to the coil +? Its probably positive ground, but this will make a difference in how much voltage is available in the secondary circuit.
The other idea is to take an Ohmmeter and check for a ground where the insulator goes into the distribuitor.
3rd idea: Is the rub block worn off the moveable point in the point set? When the rivets get too close to the cam it'll short.

It almost has to be your points or condenser if the coil is getting hot it sounds like the points are not opening as they should or are shorted I'd try a new set of points/condenser
