I recently aquired my grandfather's UTU tractor and have since found out that several things on it are not stock. I am wanting to find out if the cylinder blocks are stock as well. The cylinder block number is 10A15154. Could anyone tell me where I could find out if these are stock and if not what is suppose to be on here? This is a 1950 UTU model.

The blocks are from a M5. 10A149 or 10A149A are U bbocks.

What are the differences between the M5 and U blocks? Is it just a larger bore?

Thanks in advance for the information

Yes. 4 1/4 for U, 4 5/8 for M5. But it could have either G or U crank and that would give you a 6 or 5 in stroke. So lots of other options too, with this setup. Larry

How can I determine whether this is a G or U crank?

About the only way would be to pull the oil pan and get the part no. off the crank.

if the heads are off you can turn the piston to tdc, mark where it comes up to, turn the crank to bdc and measure up to that mark, that will tell you how long the stroke is.

I'll bet it still a U crank. Chances are your Grandpa was due for an overhaul and the dealer recommended uping the horsepower of the machine by putting on the M5 blocks, pistons etc. instead of boring out what he had. It would have been the same money back then or cheaper to uprate the machine. If your grandfather was anything like mine. He would do that but if the crankshaft was still good. I doubt he would have sprung for a new crank. Therefore, it is probably M5 blocks and pistons with the U crank. That was good for about 50 horsepower.

This is in response to Phil's note. At the end of your note you stated that using the M5 cylinder blocks and pistons with the stock U crank, that it would be good for about 50 horsepower. Is that 50 total horsepower?

Thanks for the information.
