What is the main differance between the 4 star and the 4 star super? Will it say something in the serial #if it is a super? Have serial # 16600119 on the tractor we bought!

I have an original 4 star,1960,16601137,factory lpg. It has all of the criteria of a super but does not say it anywhere. It has not been repainted & has the original tires on it yet. According to the owners manual, supers had headlites in the grille + on M5 style fenders, a combination tail & flood on left fender {non-supers had clams w/small tailite},fuel gage, speedo & cig.lighter,600-16 fronts instead of 550-16, deluxe seat w/tension control.

Rusty,
I've got 4 Star Super w/ serial # 16600109 here in Michigan. Where are you located? Curious where a tractor only 10 numbers different ended up.

I believe only the 4 Star Supers had the deluxe dash gages with Speedometer.

BMG, It's great to here of all the 4 star supers out there! I wonder how many of the series where supers? I'm located in northeast Iowa.

Rusty,
I was just in your neck of the woods this weekend. Dubuque/Dyersville to be exact. It's pretty much unknown how many were supers. I'm assuming yours is a super too?

The 3 things I always thought differentiated between the 4 Star and the 4 Star Super are:
1. fancy steering wheel with the medallion in the center
2. Stainless strip and wing-like hood ornament
3. Crown fenders similar to an M5

However when I look in the parts manual, I can only find that the crown fenders are specifically called for on the Super. The strip and ornament appear to be called for on both the 4 Star and the Super. I can't find the fancy steering wheel and medallion called for anywhere. Unlike the later models (Jet Star 3, U302 & M670), I think the 4 Star Supers were intermingled with the 4 Stars, rather than being the later models.

Not even sure of the M5 fenders- I have a super with all the other features (also the deluxe seat), but has clamshell fenders.

The parts book lists the M5 fenders for the super. Yours may have been changed, I'd change mine if I HAD to use it to rake hay. The fenders are in the way & can't see the tire and rake when making a tight turn. The regular 4 Star could have all the options as a super, I've seen a couple with all the options and clamshell fenders. Don't know the answer to this onefor sure!!!

your tractor is a 1959,first year of prodution of 4 star or jet star 4, 119th one built out of 2537 total. i do not believe its a super the way i read the book.

The main differences are the super came with M5 fenders, and speedometer. There may be other small differences, but these are the main ones. The super was a loaded tractor, ps, 3., pto, ampl tork, spin out wheels, all the options. At least all the ones I've seen were. Also, the serial #s do not tell if it's a super. I've got #16600075.
