What is the best way to free a stuck engine?

Reading through the posts I have found several ways to free a stuck engine. Which way is BEST.

Some say turpentine, others diesel, PB Blaster, Free All and kerosene. There has to be one that works better than the others.

Which is best, and why?

What's Best depends on how badly its stuck, and what you want to save.

The only chemical I've tried that wasn't mentioned is CLR. It worked, but is pretty corrosive, may not be able to clean up the cylinders.

Have also put a post on top of U pistons with a bottle jack on top of that with a heavy chain around the jack and crankcase and jacked the blocks off the pistons. But that tractor was left outside with the head off.

heat also helps put a circulating block heater on the fill with water and plug it in

The olive oil works good but if you want it broke loose tommorow use a grease gun.Find one of the pistons that is up remove all the plugs fill with pen. oil,back the valves off on the cyl that the piston is up on take an old plug bust out the porcealin weld a 1/8 pipe coupling in it put in a zerk, start pumping use the cheapest grease you can find.This has been working for years it is gentlest way I have found with the most force as long as the head gasket holds and they usually do.

Instead of grease, we knocked the center out of a plug and welded a 1\2 inch fitting and use a U or 4 Star and hydrulic pressure. You'll find out if your head gasket and valves will hold.

I found out with the grease that any penetraing oil got pushed right around the piston first thing so it always led me to believe that it needed to be something with some body but the hyd oil would clean out faster!

You also need to watch where you are standing, when you push one down, two more come up. If things go good, they clean most of the oil, coke. or whatever might be in the cylinders out in a stream from the plug holes. Mike

In Successful Farming's book Ageless Iron "Tractors That Live On", on page 108 Roger Mohr is quoated "just pour olive oil into the spark plug holes and let it set". He then says " olive oil has tremendous penetrating power. It's better than kerosene". I haven't had the chance to try it yet. But Iam going too. Larry O.

I have had a few break loose. But like you I have tried everything. The last one that broke loose for me I had Marvel mistery oil in for a while and then I tried coke. I don't know which worked but sopmething made it turn loose. It did sit for about a year soaking in the oil and the coke was added about 2 months before it broke. Good luck.

I liked the idea of Mystery oil setting for several days then add more and pressureize the cylinder with air to push it in and past the rings. I have found the the extension hose on my compression tester screws into the plug hole and the quick disconect from the gage fits the quick disconect on my air hose.
