Does anyone know where I can find out what heads are suppose to be on a 1950 UTU tractor? I just aquired my grandfather's tractor and it has two different head on it (10A4206 and GE30J).

Thanks in advance for the information

MM Repair Catalog R1056E for U with 283A4 from tractor 334001 (circa 1947) up to UTU 01108297 / UTS 01205553 et al (circa mid 1951) says for 70 Octane Gas its GE30E for Distillate GE30K for LP GE30J

Beginning in 1951 after the above s/n (beginning motor 01914127 and ending motor 01924196) per R1115A they also had different heads for different altitudes: GAS Sea Level to 4000 ft GE30E
GAS 4000-8000 ft GE30M
GAS above 8000 ft GE30J
Tractor Fuel(Dist) Sea Level to 4000 ft GE30K
Tractor Fuel(Dist) 4000-8000 ft GE30N
Tractor Fuel(Dist) above 8000 ft GE30E
LP Sea Level to 4000 ft GE30J
LP 4000-8000 ft GE30P
LP above 8000 ft GE30T

Beginning with motors after 01924196 the GAS only changed again per R1115A to: GAS Sea Level to 4000 ft GE30M or GE30Z
GAS 4000-8000 ft GE30J
GAS above 8000 ft GE30P

Beginning with all UB and with UTS after s/n 01210571 (beginning 283B4 motor 06100001) per R1119D they had 10A series heads for different altitudes (note I have an early UB with GE30Z heads): GAS Sea Level to 4000 ft 10A4210
GAS 4000-8000 ft 10A4213
GAS above 8000 ft 10A4206
Tractor Fuel(Dist) Sea Level to 4000 ft 10A4204
Tractor Fuel(Dist) 4000-8000 ft 10A4205
Tractor Fuel(Dist) above 8000 ft 10A4209
LP Sea Level to 4000 ft 10A4206

MM Service Letter 266 gives following Compression Ratios for 10A heads on 283 ci U motor. (Note heads also common to G and M5 but not same CR on different jugs / cranks) Equivalence from other sources.
GE30D, GE30K, 10A4204 = 4.5:1
GE30N, 10A4205 = 5.2:1
GE30E, GE30F, GE30H, GE30W, 10A4209 = 5.5:1
GE30M, GE30Z, 10A4210 = 6.95:1
GE30J, 10A4213 = 7.55:1
GE30P, 10A4206 = 8.35:1
GE30T, 10A4207 = 9.3:1

Have more info, but will post later

If it is LP fueled either of those heads are correct but not mixed like that. 30J is that same as a 4213. That is hard on the rod and main bearings to run it like that. if you find a GE 30P that is the same, (older part number) as a 4206. If it is a gasolene they came with 4209,(30E) or 4210 (30Z).

This tractor orginally ran on gas, but was switched to LP. I am thinking about switching back to gas though. If I found a matched head to either one of these heads, do you think that it would run alright on the gas they sell today?

Once again, thanks for your response in advance

If you run 4213's (30J) you should be fine. If you run 4206, (30P) you will be on the edge of pre-ignition. I had a U with this setup and I blended ethynal with the fuel to prevent dieseling when I shut it off.
