interesting - and you have confirmed GTB by s/n - I have a GTB book, but it doesn't start til s/n 01603165 (late 1951) so not much help there. Both it and Shop Maint manual show all disk brakes.

Can you get a 4 cyl tach and determine rpm - if so, you can calculate drive train by measuring circumference of tires (15-34 now designated 18.4-34 book at about 194" rolling circumference (rice/cane about 199 inches)). This will be trans and rear end and finals (if you had them). Other option is to jack it up and count revs while turning by hand (Note open rear ends will typically have one not turn and other turns twice as much). If you have stock (low speed) trans (as implied by the 2,1,5 forward position in pattern?) and you don't have an extra high/low range shift (in front of trans - I've only ever seen one and it was on a military (USAF) U with duals used to pull B52's - never heard of such on GTB) then someone has changed input gear or rear end ratio either at factory or otherwise - not even sure how that could really be accomplished. Intersting!!

I appericate all the help deadeye and to everybody who gave any info I would like to get a hold of a military book if anybody has one I would be intersted in it.I went to a tractor pull yesterday because I pull my tractor I won the 6500# and 8500# classes and in first gear my tractor was faster than the rest of the other GTB's that were in 2nd gear.I personally have not changed any thing in the rearend and the people I bought it off of said they did not either so that is why I can not figure in out but it sure has a farter trany or ring and pinion. Thanks Brandon

I don't have the books for the military version , but the farm version goes like this according to my service manual which covers UT, UC, GTB, and GTC.
GTB and GTC----15-34 tires 1st-2.6mph 2nd-3.7mph 3rd-4.4mph 4th-6.3mph 5th-14.6mph.
Shift pattern appears to be right which is 2-1-5 across the top and R-4-3 across the bottom. I thought that you might have 38" tires on it with the 1/4-20 screw on the govenor screwed clear out. I had a 1950 "U" that was that way with 13-38's on it that went well over 20mph. Don't know what you have but it must be the gears out of a UDLX put in place of the GTB gears to get that speed with short tires on it. Maybe someone else has some input on this thing.----deadeye

Brandon,All i have for you is speculation.I have a GTB and when I was doing research on it,I came across an article talking about the relationship between Del Monte and MM.Apparently they used each others products in advertising and Del Monte used a lot of MM products. The article mentioned some factory modifications made for Del Monte.Possibly they had ahigher speed rear end for their use.Just a guess.I have not been able to relocate the article.Maybe you have a Del Monte tractor.
