Got a friend who says a Minnie Mo model U is one of the fastest tractors ever made when in road gear. He told me of 30+ MPH speeds. I didn't believe him.
How fast can your Minnie go?

We have clocked my uncle's G-1000 Vista at 30 mph. I've had our Montgomery Ward's up to 55 before I let out of it. Went 35 to 40 mph on it on my wedding day in fourth gear.

I had a UDLX up to 38 mph. That was a little scary. I have seen some of the older U tractors run over 20 mph. And my old 66' U 302 would do darn near 20 mph.

My 48 UTU will run about 23mph with no load on it. However, I might have the RPM set up too high. It runs smooth though. 20mph is fast enough with narrow front on a bumpy road...

Moline did make a high speed version of the early MM U. It had gearing that would take it up to about 35 mph. The way they can be idetified is by the shifting pattern. The regular MM U shifting pattern is 2-1-5 across the top. The high speeder is 2-3-5 across the top of the pattern.

My dad had a couple of these on the farm when I was a kid. When the steering is loose, these get a little scaring in road gear.

Your friend might have one of these tractors.

My stock '47 UTU does 19.6 mph on 38" tires as measured by GPS (accurate to 0.1 mph). That's fast enough for an NF tractor!!

Either your buddy is BS'ing you or he is seriously overspeeding the motor on his U...

The straight "U" won't go that fast unless it has the "UDLX" transmision. Then it would go approx. 40 MPH. A straight "U" will go about 20 MPH with 38 in tires on it. That will very a little and is usually a little lower than that.----deadeye

Re: MMU We had one of the high-geared ones for awhile on our farm, wouldn't pull worth a damn, but I did get a speeding ticket in a 25 mile zone! The others are right, even in good shape, at that speed they are pretty scary !! LOL Jim
