I have a UTS that will run, but was parked several years ago. Went to move it and one rear wheel will not turn. The brake seems to be free, pulled the tractor and the wheel just slides.
The motor is free and the transmission was good when we parked it.

I can't figure this one out, can anyone get me on the right track?

Take a chain that a tow truck would have and put it in the slot on the side of the brake drum, put tension on it with another vehicle, then tap lightly on the drum. Remember the brake drum turns opposit direction the wheel turns.. It sound like the shoes rusted to the drum.

Take the brake drum clear off and leave it off till you really determine that it isn't the brake. It may be tightened to tight. Clutch may be stuck if you only jacked up one side to check. If you did, now jack up the other side and the opposite wheel should be stuck if it's the clutch.-----deadeye

Just a thought: jack up the free wheel and try turning it. Then put in a gear (5th, perhaps) with clutch released-You did check the clutch, didn't you? see if the transmission will turn back through the gear train from the wheel to the clutch. You might also try turning the belt pulley shaft if it has one. If this works, and I'm not sure it will, the problem is on the stuck wheel side. I would remove the brake drum and see if there is any play between the differential shaft where the brake drum mounts and the bull gear. Might be a good idea to try turning the stuck wheel backwards, but if it suddenly comes free, you need to take the top off and probably drain the grease to see what it was that had it in a bind.

well I'm just guessing since I know little about that one but it could be a bearing if it has a bull gear there could be water in that area was that by chance the up hill side of the machine when it sat or down hill if down hill it could have gotten water in that area and froze up because of that

This is interesting: Let us know the outcome when you free it.

Thanks to all of you I got the wheel fixed. It was the brake after all. Did what you all told me to do, and it worked!

Thanks Again!
