Hey tractor people, I've notice on some pictures of MM that the battery box was on the side of the tractor not under the gas tank. Does anyone know what year/modle this was on? Thanks Mark H.

All the U series batteries where under the gas tank. They didn't switch to the long side mount type until they came out with the UB series tractor and because of the where the steering wheel and shaft were moved to. In the center of the dash and fuel tank.

I believe most all, correct me if I'm wrong, used the long battery on most of the models after '53,(when they went to 12v) and older UT's, 6v ( 38-42?) I assume you are talking about the '45-55 models.

I purchased the parts to put a battery on the left side of the gas tank of my '49 UTS. The original location was under the tank, but it requires a special short battery that is pretty low on cranking amps.
I have seen pictures of other tractors that were set up this way too.

The battery box is located on the left side of our 1948 UTU, its underneath the tank on both our 1948 RTI and 1949 ZAU. Our UTU is still 6volt and were using the long 6volt battery. The other two tractors have been converted to 12volts.

I junked out a 48 UTU had battery under the tank. I do have a UB that has the long battery on the side. Not sure but I think that under the tank was correct on UTU have a 47 that way and as I said 48 was that way also
