My grandpa purchased Moline this fall. We are guessing a UTU and I want to know if anyone can tell us what year it is by the the serial numbers. The one by the motor is: 644341 A and the one by the Right rear wheel is: 337146 U Some Facts About the Tractor.
We got it from a guy up by Wacoma, IA, it was in a shed and hadn't been moved for about 8 years. He had plans of restoring it but never did. It was running when he put it in there. It didn't start when we got it home, but after a new battery, new points, and coil it started. Last weekend was the first it had been started since he had gotten it. This morning we went to the shed and it started right off. Drove it up the street and put a full tank of gas and a can of "Sea Foam" in it. Then went down the road to a shop where we dropped the oil and put a can of "Sea Foam" in there to. Also drain the Anti-Freeze out and put new in. Then drove it back to the shed.
We plan to restore it and I'm going to use it as a FFA or 4-H project. And then pull it in tractor pulls around the area.

You use the serial tag by the wheel. 337146 should be a 1947 UT, serial number list on this site does not break out front axle configuration for that year. It probably has a 2 wheel narrow front,which MM designated 'U' making it a UT'U'. The engine should be a solid four cylinder block, If not changed previously. Congratulations on the new 4H project.

Thanks! All of that info you have given me is true. So what should we ask for when we go to parts stores? "UT" or "UTU" Just one more question about the serial numbers. The plate by the wheel has "UTU" stamped so what does that mean. THANKS! -Dan

Dan, Congrats on the project.
The U on the end is for the front end type. U is for the narrow front. S is for a fixed wide front N is for a single front tire and E is an adjustable front end. There are a few differences for the UTS, the others are the same except the front end, which are interchangable.
If you need some help, or would just like to see some MM, let us know were you're @ and I'm sure there is someone close. Im in Eastern SD myself.
