How successful is it to free a stuck UTS engine?

I have a neighbor who wants to sell me an old UTS. It hasn't been run in 4-5 years and the engine is stuck. I have seen several model U Molines this year at sales with stuck motors.

How successful is getting the engine unstuck without breaking a ring. Any suggestions will be appreciated. He wants $500.00, I think that's a bit high for a stuck engine, other than that, it is ok.

MM U 5 yrs +; Offer the current owner $300 cash
and a book of 100 stamps. He'll never be lucker
and he can write most of his friends that some
other guy now owns his old U.
Chances are it has taken rain down the stack and the rebuild will take a lot of your time and perhaps half of your money.
If the fix is easy and cheap you'll be way ahead
and have a decent tractor.
PB Rust from VIP Auto Centers or any other good parts store will go a long way to de-rust the cylinders.
Pull off the head and scrape down the gross rust
and stone/hone the cylinders that are exposed.
Enjoy the project.

sounds like some thing I would buy then I'd pull the plugs fill the cylinders up with turpentine and let it sit for a day or two by the way put the plugs back in while it sits for a day or 2 then pull the plugs out and hit the starter just tap the starter and stay out of the way of the plug holes and it should free up when it does change the oil and put new plugs and gas in the tank and let it get warm you should have a good toy after that

That sounds about right for a complete unit. As long as there wasn't any water that ran into the engine, it should clean up easily. If water has ran down the stack/manifold into the cylinders, it could be very intense on doing a rebuild. Had one set of ZTU blocks that I had to bust the pistons out. Bored the cylinders, bought new pistons, & away we went!

That's cheap! Rings and parts are easy to get for this engine and un sticking them isn't that hard to free up either.
