Jetstar rocker arm problem

Does anyone have any ideas on how to unplug the oil passages in the rocker arm? I was adjusting the valves and noticed that both rocker arms for #2 cylinder was not getting any oil. All the others seemed to be getting plenty of oil. Upon dissassembly I found I could not blow through the little hole in the top center at the end of the channel. I have let them soak in Napas carb cleaner for 24hrs with no success. I tried to feed a 20# steel fishing leader down through the hole but cannot get it all the way. Also the IT manual says to set the valves at .010 hot for the intake and .018 hot for the exhaust. A owners manual I have for a 445 says it should be .008 hot for the intake and .010 hot for the exhaust. Which is correct? Thanks.

If it is all plugged up and there is no way to clean them out. Then why not take them then to a machine shop and have the whole thing hot tanked? Maybe that will dissolve whatever is in there.

My jetstar was the same way. I used a cutting torch tip cleaner to clear the hole out. The hole will be at the top end of the rocker arm right over the shaft.

Kevin, I have the hole at the top clean as well as the hole in the bushing. The arms are plugged internally. The shaft on which the rocker arms pivot is clear and has no problem suppling the other rocker arms.

I may be totally off on this-
On MM U's the rocker arm is hollow and there is a 1/2" dia steel plug in each end, retained by a cotter key if I recall. The way I was told by an older mechanic to clean them was to take out the cotter keys (stands, rockers and spacers are removed, of course)and drive the plug from one end through until both plugs come out the other end.
I can attest that when you do this, it'll build some pressure in the arm. It'll squirt goop out every open hole and the first plug out the end shot out like a rocket when I got close.

You might try doing something similar on your jetstar. Once you have the tube open, its no trouble to open the plugged holes.

There is cotter keys at both ends.. I think if you remove the cotter keys, you can take apart the shaft. Just mark everything and label it good. That way, you can get it all back the way it was. Once you do that, you should be able to clean out the shaft.

I have been rebuilding my JetStar 3 and that is how it is set up. I have not had it running yet. I am hoping that it will oil fine, if not, I will take it apart and clean it up.

.010 and .008 sound like the right numbers, I have not checked the it manual yet. Its out in the shop.
