Oil to use in 1955 Moline G.B.D.

I have a 1955 Moline G.B.D. with ????? hours it. I drained the blackest oil I had ever seen out of it. What weight and type of oil should I put back in ? Would it hurt to put some cheap oil in it to clean the inside ? Thank you . John

The blackest oil you will find comes out of a diesel, will stain your hands like INK. I assume your tractor holds 2.5 gals. of oil.
Chang oil and filter install 2 gal.of oil and 2 qts of AUTO TRANS FLUID let run for about 1 hour.
Then let set over night. Crank and letrun for 15min. the next day. Change oil and filter use 10-40 Shell ROUNTUNDA DIESEL OIL and install 2 qts of SLICK 50 oil treatment. You motor will be clean inside and protected for a long time, keep oil changed every 3 months.

The best oil is cheap! Use a Brand Name detergent oil of proper vis. for your area. Just change oil and filter more often. I do not recommend this but have heard of people draining the oil and refill with diesel fuel and turning the engine over but do not start it then drain and refill.

I do not know MM models very well, but if a GBD id a diesel as I assume the D indicates, make sure you use regulat diesel oil.

MY UNCLE HAS A GBD THAT HE USES REGULARY AND HE USES 15W40 ROTELLA T IN IT AND HIS OTHER DIESELS AND NEVER HAS ENGINE TROUBLE

The reason the GTBD or GBD didn't do well is two reasons: one they had crankshaft trouble, two the 4 cylinder 403 gas version developed surperior torque. There were many GBD converted to 504's once MM introduced the 5 Star diesel. Part from the 336 ci diesel were used to convert them to the 504 ci six.
