I have a UB special with a narrow frontend. I went and looked at a front end today that was supposed to have come off a UB special but something didnt look right. It was a square not a round pipe like a swarzt front, My UB has a dovetail that holds the narrow frontend, but the wide front I looked at today has a square plate with 4 bolts. My question is does this sound like the right frontend or will it even work. Any info will be greatly appreciated Chris

Chris, The factory UB Special wide front was a square type like the earlier UBE tractors. It looks sort of like a tapered I-beam. It mounted differently though. There's a cast bracket that mounts to the front face of the tractor casting directly below the radiator. It mounts with 4 bolts. There is also a rear bracket behind the steering gear output (tapered section). There is a bracket that mounts into the tapered section of the steering gear with 2 tie rods connected to it. These tie rods go directly to each front wheel spindle. The U series photo archive by Letourneau shows several pictures of UB Specials with wide fronts.

I'm not familiar with the UB Special but I have a 1953 UBE with a square (factory) front end. If you go to Deurimplement.com and look at the Z on that page, that shows you something similar to what my factory front end looks like.
