Have found a 47 UTI S#336162H. Anybody know what the H on the end of the serial # indicates?
Has 9x20 steer tires on front but can't tell what size are supposed to be on back? What are the correct front tires for restoration purposes? This tractor has downward exhaust, is that correct? And what is the correct TSX # Carb that is supposed to be on it(Has the 283A4 engine. My first tractor, need help making it right.

I also have a 1947 UTI. The front tires are truck tires 8.25 x 20 and the rears were 14.00 x 28 industrial tread tires which is not a size that is made anymore. My rears were shot and so I put 13.6 x 28 on them but they look small. Actually these tires are about 8 inches shorter than the 14.00 x 28 size. I got a real cheap deal on the 13.6's so I put them on to be able to use it this fall. I would recommend using no less than 14.9 x 28 if you have to put different ones on. The issue here is that the rims are only 8 inch rims and some do not feel it is OK to put a 14.9 tire on this rim when in todays standards that tire is made for a 12 inch rim. If anyone out in tractor land has some usable 14.00 x 28 tires from any sort of application let me know. Right now the only 28 inch industrial tire available is a 16 x 28 which is way too much for an 8 inch rim. I would like to know if any other UTI or UTIL has wider rims than mine has. I want to keep to the split rim style that is original to the tractor.

Brad, Roger,
The H at the end of the serial # was commonly used by Moline for industrial tractors. In the mid 40s Moline used an S, U, N, or H for example to signify what front axle was on the tractor when it left the factory. I don't believe all tractors came with this extra letter but quite a few did. I've got a couple RTI from that time frame with an H at the end of the serial #. Also, Moline had a light and a heavy front axle for the UTI. Roger's is most likely a light front end if it looks like a UDLX and has 7.50-16 front tires. Brad's is most likely the heavy version especially if it has 20" truck tires mounted on the front. That axle was meant to take a lot of weight and you typically see 9.00-20 or similar sized tires on most UTI today. The down draft exhaust was standard on most UTI to keep the muffler out of interfering with loaders and other industrial equipment and also to keep the height of the tractor as compact as possible.

Brad, I've got a '46 UTI s/n 325711H. I don't know what the H means either. Mine has the same front axle as a UDLX or UTS with 7.50x16 tires, all the other ones I've ever seen have the big truck tires on them. Check the casting number of the rear cast wheels, mine says FT2295B, it has 14.00x28 rear tires. My tractor is supposed to have the downward exhaust on it but Grandpa changed it so it wouldn't set any fields on fire. The carb #'s are TSX 67 or TSX 624

Roger

Got my UTI up and running with some cheap rubber, but if you ever have to change rears, go with at least a 14.9 size. The 13.6's I put on are too small and do not look right on the tractor at all. Took her down the field and on the road. Runs out good, but does not have much for brakes. Do you know how to set the brakes up on these beasts?
