Super 670 (Propane) Sold for $10,000

I do not know much about MM, but I watched a 1965 Super 670 (Propane), w/Front End Easy On Loader, 3pt, 2,051 hrs sell for $10,000 at auction. It was a sharp, original tractor. A family member wanted his uncle's tractor and ended paying $10,000 for it. I was not sure if this was a typical price for such a tractor, or if somebody was just running up the price.

Wow! I have two Supers that run but need some work and I would take a whole lot less than that for both. I've always been at the wrong place at the right time.

Either 2 family members wanted it, or someone found out he wanted it pretty bad.
What kind of reputation does the Auctioneer have? There's one down here in NC tries to 'pretend' to take bids in hope that you'll raise your own.
On the other hand, missed out on a MM ZAU once, my cousin approached the buyer at the sale and he said he'd take $50 more than he bid for it. He got to keep it.

I wondered the same. I am positive he told the auctioneer he was going to buy back the tractor so it would stay in the family. I was not happy about what the nephew had to pay. In fact, the bids were jumping at $1,000 increments.

Why on earth would someone Tell the auctioneer he was going to buy back something to keep it in the family. The auctioneer's #1 job is to himself if he is paid on commission. It is to his benefit to get things as high as he can.

Second.. If they wanted to keep this in the family, then why on earth even put it into the auction. He would have been better off just paying the family member for it. Unless there is some "lost love" between family members there. I would have just offered to pay a fair market value for it. We all know that those numbers are pretty well established + or - a few hundred dollars.

Too bad he had to pay $5,000. more than it probably was worth. "Just to keep it in the family"

After doing some research on this, I have found that the nephew had purchased the tractor for his wife's anniversary gift.

However, what is more amazing is that people actually tried out bidding at those prices!
