Question. I keep reading post where people are putting in Small Block Chevy Valves into their MM tractors.

Anyone know what application of Chevy Motor the valves they are getting are for? How about a Chevy/GM part number? I have been to my local Napa machine shop and he told me that if he had a part number or something to go by. He might be able to fix me up.

My Valves and heads for my JetStar look pretty good. I would consider doing a Valve Job and stuff, but I really did not want to pay $20. to $25. per valve from Agco if I did not have too. I would think that I would be able to buy all 8 valves for half or less than the cost of the original MM valves and get a better valve to boot.

If anyone has this information. Let me know.

Thanks!

Phil

Phil, I have my guy use exhaust valves from the small block heads. It was my understanding that the exhuast valve was the same regardless of the motor the head was on. The only thing is they will most likely have to be ground to size and the stems will be a little big.

Call me if you need any more info.

Joe

I don't know what your rebuilding, but in the case of my ZTU, The chevy valve stems are a few thousands bigger. This was good because my guides were worn. Can't tell you what they came out of or what size they were. I know the shop said, but I've slept since then! I used them in the intake & exhaust.

I got new valves for my UB at the local Carquest store. About $8.00 for intake & $20.00 for exhaust. To rebuild the heads including new valves, seats, springs and sleeving the guides it was about $370.00 total for both heads. Had to get the springs from AGCO.

Phil,
I use used valves from Chevy small block heads from a junk yard. Usually use only exhaust valves as the intakes are too big. Even the exhaust valves will have to be ground down to fit, including grinding the edges so the valve isn't too thin at the edges. Since they are bigger, even valves that are not fir to use for small blocks are ok for the tractors if the stems aren't worn badly. NAPA store may have some used ones???

I am rebuilding the heads on a JetStar 3 Super. I already know that everyone is using the small block chevy valves. However, I was hoping someone could come up with a part number or head application that they got their valves out of. It would make it a bit easier if I had that. The original stuff is kind of expensive. $20.00 for the intake and $24.00 for the exhaust. Hence the reason I was looking at the Chevy replacements. I was not going to go with used stuff.

I guess I will bite the bullet and just get original MM parts. I appreciate you all taking the time to post what you could!

Thanks,

Phil

Since my motor was shot, I had all new valves and seats installed in my MM Z motor. I got performance Chevy 350 V8 exhaust valves. Worked out just right for me. Jet Stars were based on similar dimensions of the R/Z motors. Ask any auto parts place to set a 350 exhaust valve next to your Jet Star valve. You might be pleasantly surprised. However, seats may need replacing too. Also, I found that in some truck motors, the stem diameter was bigger, so stick to a standard 350 ex. valve. At least as told to me by the engine shop.

Bro,

Most small block chevy's use 1.94 intake and 2.02 exhaust if I remember correctly. I would suggest telling 'em you need intake vales etc for a late 70's early 80's 305/350. That should get you a number and they should have those in stock. I would then mic the diameter of the stems and measure the valve face. Compare this to the specs of your MM parts and see what you get.

When it comes to Ole chevies just ask your bro.

Intakes are 1.94, and in the big heads 2.02. I believe all of the exhaust valves were 1.6.

Whoops. My bad. I forgot that number. You are correct I only listed the intake valve sizes.
