How can you get a few more rpms from the MM governors?? What were the production years for the ZAU??? Any help would be great!! From the pulling board, Chads

Talk to Matt at motec, (765-963-6628), he's done a couple for me, very responsive. He rebuilds them and can give you a bunch more rpms. I havnen't seen anyone around hear running lots or rpm,s,(over 2000) I suspect the intake tract that gives it alot of midrange torque may starve it at high rpms. I would be interested to know where the peaks are.

Hi, The ZAU I have has the shebler carb on it, like the 77 oliver. I rebuilt it, and opened up the jets and the metering stem. It pulls 43hp @ 540, and lugs to about 65hp around 900 engine rpms. That is on 90 octane pump gas. I really like this tractor, I use it to pull deadweight, I have pulled all different colors, but never a MM, until recenty. That long 5 in stroke in this engine really talks when you put a load on it!! Love that MM sound comming out of a 4inch chrome stack!! ChadS

They are great tractors. They don't have the options for big HP like a U. That being said, I think the are one of the best true stock tractors in their class. My Dad pulls one in stock, all we did to it was put new valves in,(chev small block are pretty much the same size) His makes 42 HP but it is decieving with the huge power band. I think all the 90 degree corners in the intake make for excellant fuel mixing at lugging rpms. The 5" stroke and long connecting rods really shine on the track. He pulls against hot JD A's and 77's and often beats them and he has less than $1000 in it with new tires.

The ZAU was made from 1949 to 1952. There were over 17,600 made in that time period.
I believe you can adjust the governor max rpm with the screw sticking out of the side of the gov w/ the lock nut holding it tight.
