I have been collecting tractors for about 5 Years and had three in different stages of restoration.
Last weekend I found a 1946 MM RTE (I believe from the ss#) It has been restored to original condition and is beautiful. The man who did the work had pass away in June and the family no longer wanted the tractor. This is my first MM...you don't see many here in Ga.I plan to show her in a show in mid Oct.The ss# is 415537 and it is a "R" series. Does 1946 sound correct?? This is truly one of the best restorations I have ever seen. Thanks..Dave

Welcome to the wonderful world of Minneapolis-Moline. I too have an RTE - 1950 model. Just finished restoring it last year. Your 1946 fenders should be flat and bolted to the platform along the bottom. The stock platform extends from the axles rearward and has a rolled edge at the back. It's in 3 pieces with the main center section and 2 additions on either side to extend out to the fenders. You mentioned brake and clutch pedals. Did you mean to say clutch lever instead of pedal? Or does yours have a foot clutch? Only RTI models (industrials) came with foot clutches. The rest came with hand clutches with the lever mounted to the RH top of the trans cover. What size rear tires does your tractor have? If they're 24" with cast centers and you have a foot clutch you might have an industrial hybrid (something a previous owner pieced together). Does yours have an adjustable wide front or a solid fixed width wide front? If your fenders are not flat are they a large crown fender that wraps part way over the top of the tire?

Brian, Sorry to be so long answering you note..we were in Canada and Maine the first 3 weeks of Sept. Thanks for your answer...I'm going to try and get a better look tomorrow at the plate because I believe it must be a RTI.
The platform is exactly as you decribed it. It has the clutch pedal on the left and brake on the right. The fenders are flat on the vertical surface and crown out over the tires and extend down to the platform in the rear. The rear wheels have cast centers and the front wheels are also cast.I'll look tomorrow but I believe the wide frront is solid and does not adjust. The PTO has a "u" shaped cover over it.
The battery was dead and I finally found one that would fit under the gas tank...it was for a 1963 VW Bettle...all $90.00 worth.
It was a little hard to start when I got it but after a couple of days I couldn't get it started at all. With vacation I just today got a chance to look at it. It had set in a garage covered for two years with gas standing in the tank. When the guy decided to sell it he just poured a gallon in on top of the old gas. (I didn't think to ask)I ended up pulling all that sticke mess into the whole fuel system...what a mess.I have everything cleaned (except for the sediment bowl)I'm going to buy a new one tomorrow and ready to put back togather. I want to show it Oct.11/12th. In the Charleston, Tn. show if its running. Thanks again..keep in touch...David

the r series was made from 39 to about 53-55 with a few changes along the way i to have many books and could offer some help mine is a 47 wide frount they were strong and well built in some areas they were common mostly on smaller farms

I forgot to mention something in my last follow up. It looking at the serial numbers it would seem the most obvious that someone put an RTE front end on a 1946 RTU rear end. this wasn't all that uncommon. Technically, there is nothing different between the RTU and RTE except the serial tag. Some collectors would argue that this would decrease the value of the tractor, but I don't like to scrutinize tractors taht much. Good luck with your new MM, Im sure its a beauty.

Tyler Janke, thanks for your followup..additional info..this tractor from the back of the fenders to in front of the brake and clutch petal has a solid steel floor in place. At first I though it might be the floor of a Comfort Cab..but after looking at it closely I don't believe so. I plan to show it in Charleston, Tn. show Oct.11/12th. You just don't see MM in the shows in this area so I don't expect many answers..Thanks again, Dave

The RTE wasn't introduced until 1947. Maybe read the wrong year from the serial number section.

From the serial # you have a 1946 RTE with adjustable front end and the EE engine.They were built from 1940 til 1953.It is rated at around 23hp I have several books on M.M.so e-mail me if i can help. louboy

louboy, thanks for your followup. I have been using Minneapolis-Moline Buyer's Guide by Brian Rukes which is how I came up with 1946 RTE also.The man's son who sold me the tractor could tell me nothing about it. I had to order a battery for it..as soon as I get it out of the garage I'll take a picture and email it to you. I still plan to show it Oct. 11/12th. at the Charleston, tn. show. Thanks again, Dave
