The generator on my UTU works sometimes and sometimes not. Any suggestions on what to check first? Thank you.

It is most likely the regulator. The contacts are probably corroded. If the cover has screws you can remove it, and clean them, and adjust it. It is very tricky, and by trial and error. Just make sure when you shut off the tractor to watch your amp gauge needle to see that the contacts separate in the regulator or it will drain your battery.

When it's not working, one easy thing to do is tap on the generator or voltage regulator. If the reg. is sticking, sometimes this will jar it loose. If a brush is sticking in the gen., then this may work also. There's other things to do that are probably more accurate, but this is just a thought.
