I am looking into the purchase of a Uni-Tractor/Harvestor system. It is located 350 miles from home. I really want the unit, but have read some previous discussions on this board regarding the challenges of hauling it, due to weight distribution, width, height, etc. I was planning on hauling it myself, on a 20-foot long, 8'6" wide flatbed gooseneck trailer with good solid ramps, pulling it with a 3/4 ton pickup truck. Can you tell me if I am setting myself up for disaster, or if this is a "do-able" situation. I an interested in any ideas.

I have hauled a Uni with a 2 row picker on a 8&1/2'x28' trailer 50 miles, no problem, it fits up there nicely. Isn't any heaver than 2 Zs.

I hate to admit this: I bought a V-4 type uniharvestor with a picker sheller on it. I tried loading it on my 6-1/2' wide trailer with the header toward the rear-not near enough tongue weight and part hanging off the side. I didn't make it home.

People came from miles around to see that thing laying crosswise in the road.

That said, it sounds like your equipment is more suited to the job. If anything, sounds like you probably have enough trailer, but maybe not enough truck especially if you're going through hilly country.

My uniharvestor is 8'6" wide-outside drive tire to outside drive tire. The picker header on mine almost makes it balance on the drive axle-previous owner had brazed the rear wheel in to keep it from falling out- so you need to think about weight distribution. Make sure you have enough weight on your truck to keep the rear end firmly on the pavement.
