JTU engine conversion

Hello fellow yellow guys,

I remember reading of Twin City JT tractors with Z motors put in them. I'm keeping an eye open for a JT. I know there is some differences from how a Z and Waukeshaw mount to the front end, but I wondered what it would take to do that set-up. The JT looks like there are rails up to the front, but i know a Z bolts the front end to the front of the engine. Is there special pieces needed? If anyone knows I would like to hear. I do not venture back in time that far ususally, but if I get a JT, I would like the MM engine.

The conversion to RE (or a 206) engine in a JT was covered in a dealer service bulletin. (about 4 pages?) It requires you to shim the gas tank up 1", shim the radiator 1" and reposition it. The upper and lower radiator necks must be 'pie cut' and welded or brazed back in order to bend them toward the new water pump and cylinder head, respectively.
The front mount is fabricated from 2 pieces of steel drilled to fit the front engine bolt pattern,and notched to fit the bars that extend along the sides of the JE engine. They are welded to the bars and the bars are then cut off.
If I am not mistaken, If you want to use a starter, you have to drill the mounting holes in the transmission bell housing.
And the steering shaft running alongside the engine has to be lengthened too.
I'm guessing the tractor would need a longer hood, too.

Ethan, I have a JTU/RE engine, really like it, uses the same MM parts as the "newer" MMs. I happen to have a 206+ in mine, it'll pull the 3x14" and the 12" wheel disc anywhere here. We just got home from the local fair pull, both tractors got 7th, not good, driver error. They only have 2 classes, the J pulls '39 & older, #5500, and the UTS LP pulls '40 to '53, #6500. We usually do much better, just a bad day!! I also have the origional literature for the installation of the RE in the J. Don't remember how many pages it is, could make copies for you.
