KTA noise

I am new to the M-M Twin City line of tractors. I just purchased a 1936 KTA. My grandfather had one as his first tractor. The tractor runs great; however, when I engage the clutch there is a distinct growl or howl. It occurs when either operating just the belt pulley or when driving in each gear at relatively low rpm. It tends to become less prevelent at high rpms. Is this normal for that era and model?

Thank you in advance for a reply!

Probably is a bad front/input bearing in the transmission. What you described would be the symptom of one being bad. Howver, it could be ANY of the bearings associated with the transmission gears. They all turn whether you are in gear or neutral.
