New to M-M's. I just bought a Model R tricycle. Two questions:
Where is the serial number located?
What is the proper model designation for a Minneapolis Moline Model R tricycle?

Thanks for your help.

Dave,
Welcome!
A Model R with tricycle front end is an RTU. model "R" "T"ractor w/ "U"niversal front end is how Moline referred to it. "S" was for standard, "E" was for extendable wide front, "I" was Industrial and "N" was a single front wheel. The serial number for the tractor is located on a tag on the right side of the transmission housing below the clutch lever but above the belt pulley. The engine also has a serial number tag on the right side of the engine. If the tractor serial # is missing I can probably help identify the year of your tractor by the engine serial #.

If I am not mistaken, early R's were given the designation RT, with no third letter denoting the front axle style.

Brian-
Thanks for the info.; I hope to get chance to look it over more closely for the serial number next week. Fortunately, it has been stored in a dry barn for some time.
Thanks again.
